Qualifications Position Overview
The Ferndale Unified School District is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Groundskeeper to maintain and enhance the cleanliness, safety, and visual appeal of our school campuses. The ideal candidate will take pride in contributing to a welcoming and well-maintained school environment that supports student learning and community pride.

Primary Responsibilities
Maintain lawns, athletic fields, flower beds, shrubbery, and trees, including mowing, edging, trimming, pruning, raking, watering, fertilizing, and planting.

Maintain the cleanliness and safety of school grounds by collecting and disposing of litter, debris, and leaves.

Operate and maintain grounds-keeping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, and sprinklers.

Install, repair, and monitor irrigation systems and timers.

Apply herbicides and pesticides in accordance with safety standards and district policy.

Prepare athletic fields and outdoor spaces for school events and sports activities, ensuring safe and level surfaces.

Monitor the condition of grounds and report damage, hazards, or maintenance needs to the Facilities or Maintenance Supervisor.

Perform minor maintenance or repair tasks related to grounds and exterior school structures.

Ensure safe storage and proper handling of tools, supplies, and equipment.

Clear sidewalks and pathways of snow, ice, or debris as needed.

Collaborate with maintenance and custodial teams to support overall facility upkeep.

Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid California driver’s license.
Experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, or related work.
Knowledge of safe operation and maintenance of tools and equipment.

Desired:
Knowledge of California native and drought-tolerant plants.
Certification in pesticide application (or willingness to obtain).

Working Conditions:
Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
Physical demands include lifting to 50 pounds, bending, squatting, reaching, and operating machinery.
Exposure to chemicals, dust, pollen, and loud noise.

The successful candidate will be required to pass a fingerprint clearance with the Department of Justice and show proof of eligibility to work in the United States
