Qualifications The Sign Language Interpreter facilitates communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and others within the educational environment, including teachers, staff, and peers. Using American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other appropriate sign systems, the interpreter provides accurate and impartial interpretation of spoken, written and signed communication. This role supports student access to curriculum and school participation and ensures compliance with educational laws and accessibility standards. Under the general supervision of the Administration/Director of Special Education, serve as the facilitator of communication between students, teachers and others; interpret from spoken and written English to sign language for DHH individuals and sign language to voice for
English speakers. Sign language interpretation can occur in a variety of settings including classroom instruction, and other school related activities including school events and meetings.

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Completion of an accredited interpreter training program.
• Certification by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), Educational Interpreter Performance
Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher, or equivalent certification preferred (dependent on state/district requirements).
• Experience working in an educational setting is desirable.
• Clearance of background check and TB test (if applicable per district policy).
• Certification in CPR and First Aid.
• Meet the psychical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties effectively.

The successful candidate will be required to pass a fingerprint clearance with the Department of Justice and show proof of eligibility to work in the United States
